As we saw last time with suggestions for those of us rocking an Apple Shape, the Capsule Wardrobe is a popular term that has come to refer to a collection of clothing that is made up of foundational items we can mix ‘n match, to maximise the number of outfits we can create. The aim is to have an outfit ready for any occasion, without owning excessive items of clothing, and we can do this by buying key items in coordinating colours.
Now, whether you want to do a full on minimalist clear out, or just refresh your wardrobe with your basic Body Shape in mind, and find pieces that really work for you… we’re here to help! This week, let’s look at 3 of our key capsule wardrobe recommendations for those of us blessed with an Hourglass Shape.
If you’re Hourglass Shaped, your primary features are:
- A neat waist
- Shapely thighs
- A full bust
- If you put on or lose weight, it will likely be at your bust and hips
Item 1 – Your Ideal Dress
Go all out to show off those curves in a tailored sheath wiggle dress, with a well defined waist. A slightly rounded or oval neckline is ideal, keeping your lines sleek and smooth. Textured, stiff and thick fabrics can’t follow the curves of your body, so a fabric with elastane will work better, or go for fine jersey, knits and silky drapes.
Item 2 – Your Ideal Top
As with our Apple Shape ladies, you’ll want to get yourself a good fitting bra! Your focus will be on great structure and fitted lines, so floaty shapeless cuts will do nothing for you really. If you choose a top with a full sleeve or added bits round the neck and bust, that’s grand… just remember to balance it out with equal detailing on your bottom half too, so you stay in proportion.
Go for tops that emphasize your waist – you can try on some wraps, waistcoats or tie- belted styles that highlight your shape. You’ll look lovely in a fitted shirt that stops just at the hipbone; it’s super flattering for an hourglass shape. Get those big belts out and go nuts with drawing all the attention right there!
Item 3 – Your Ideal Bottom
A boot cut will work for you too, especially with a good oul stretch in them to fit snugly round those hips and bum. Work away on bright belts, tucked in tops, and hip details – they all look great on you, just remember to match any fuss you are wearing down here with a balancing amount up top!
We’ve chosen our new season stock specifically to suit the basic body shapes – Apple, Hourglass, Pear, Rectangle and Strawberry, so do call in if you’re a little confused and our professional stylists can sort you right out. There’s something to suit everyone’s shape over at Redlane!
