How to Measure Your Body

To dress your body right, you have to get a clear picture of your shape, and that means measuring. It’s a pain in the bum, we know, but don’t just guess… honestly, the more accurate you are now, the better you’ll look later.

So grab your tape measure, and get your kit off in front of a long mirror – you don’t want any bulky clothing adding inches and skewing the body shape calculations!

Measure Your Shoulders

This is the hardest measurement to do by yourself, so you might want to ask a friend to help…

Place the measuring tape at the tip of one shoulder and wrap it all the way around you like a shawl until it meets back at the same shoulder. The tape should skim the top of your shoulders closely, around the widest part.


Measure Your Bust

Wrap the tape measure around the fullest part of your chest, keeping it parallel to the floor. If you’re squishing those boobies, you’re pulling too tight!

Bring the ends of the tape together in the center front of your body, and if you’re on your own – look in the mirror to read the number of inches, or carefully look down at the number without moving the tape or readjusting your posture.


Measure Your Waist

Looking in the mirror, slowly bend to your right, then your left, and note the bit where your side creases as you bend. This is known as your natural waist, and you’ll want to stick the tape measure around that bit – it’ll also be the narrowest part of your waist – and don’t forget to keep it parallel to the floor. It should wrap flat around your back without buckling and meet just above your belly button.

Tempting and all as it might be, don’t suck in your stomach or hold your breath. You are gorgeous, and so is your tummy! So just stay relaxed and get a proper measurement, bringing the tape measure together at your center front. Again, read the measurement by looking at the number in the mirror, or by carefully tilting your head down without pushing out your belly.


Measure Your Hips

Put your feet close together in front of a full length mirror, and wrap the tape measure around the widest part of your hips, usually around your hip bones.

Again, make sure the tape measure is parallel to the floor, keep it flat and bring it round the largest bit of your lovely butt, and don’t pull it too tight. Then bring the ends of the tape together in front of you and read the number in the mirror, or look down at the measurement without loosening your grip.
